Terms of Service

The agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of LinguaLens (the “Service”), operated as an independent project (“we,” “us,” or “our”). The Service includes the LinguaLens browser extension (Chrome and Firefox), the LinguaLens web app, and the LinguaLens backend API.

When you create an account, install the extension, or otherwise use LinguaLens, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use LinguaLens.

What LinguaLens does

With LinguaLens, some words from your decks appear as translations while you browse. It leaves a word alone when it is unsure of the meaning. The Service includes FSRS spaced-repetition scheduling, cross-device sync of your vocabulary and review state, optional import from Anki, Skritter, and similar flashcard applications, and contextual machine translation routed through third-party translation providers.

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service. We’ll do our best to give reasonable notice before material changes, but we don’t guarantee continuous availability.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 to use LinguaLens. By using LinguaLens, you confirm you meet that age requirement. If you’re using LinguaLens on behalf of an organization, you confirm you’re authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

You’re responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Email support@lingualens.app promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Scrape, crawl, harvest, or bulk-extract data from LinguaLens or from third-party websites using LinguaLens, beyond the ordinary operation of the extension as designed.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise try to derive the source code of LinguaLens, except where applicable law expressly allows it.
• Abuse, overload, or work around rate limits, quotas, or access controls on the translation API or any other component of LinguaLens.
• Use LinguaLens to translate or process content you don’t have the right to access.
• Use LinguaLens to build a competing translation product, to train a machine learning model on its outputs, or to resell access to its translation capabilities.
• Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to LinguaLens, any user account, or any infrastructure connected to LinguaLens.
• Use LinguaLens for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right.

Subscriptions and billing

LinguaLens offers paid plans (monthly and annual). Subscriptions are processed by Stripe, Inc.; subscribing also means agreeing to Stripe’s applicable terms. We don’t see your card number, your CVV, or your bank account details.

Auto-renewal

Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, depending on the plan you chose) at the then-current price, using the payment method on file, until you cancel.

Cancellation

You can cancel from your account settings, or by emailing support@lingualens.app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Paid features stay available until that period ends; after that, your account drops back to the free tier.

Refunds

Except where applicable law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable, including for partial billing periods, unused time, or features you didn’t use. Cancel any time to stop future charges.

Price changes and taxes

We may change subscription prices. If we do, we’ll notify you before the change takes effect and give you a chance to cancel before the new price applies. Prices are exclusive of taxes unless we say otherwise; you’re responsible for any taxes that apply to your purchase.

Free tier

LinguaLens has a free tier with usage limits. We may change the features, quotas, or availability of the free tier.

Termination

Termination by you

You can stop using LinguaLens and delete your account whenever you want, from your account settings or by emailing support@lingualens.app. Account deletion cancels active paid subscriptions and removes your account-linked vocabulary and learning data. We confirm billing cancellation before completing the deletion. The Privacy Policy explains the records retained for legal, payment, security, or audit obligations and the separate retention of shared data and provider records. Deleting a card or deck does not delete your account or immediately erase its stored records.

Termination by us

We may suspend or terminate your access to LinguaLens, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you’ve violated these Terms, if your account has been inactive for an extended period, if continuing to provide LinguaLens to you exposes us or other users to legal, security, or operational risk, or if we discontinue the Service. Where it’s practicable, we’ll give notice and a chance to fix the problem before terminating for cause.

Effect of termination

On termination, your right to use LinguaLens ends immediately. Sections of these Terms that should survive termination by their nature (Intellectual Property, Disclaimer of Warranty, Limitation of Liability, and Indemnification) will survive.

Your content

You own the vocabulary, decks, notes, and other content you create, import, or submit to LinguaLens (“Your Content”). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and process Your Content solely as needed to provide LinguaLens to you (for example, syncing across your devices and routing sentence fragments to translation providers as described in the Privacy Policy).

You’re responsible for Your Content and for confirming you have the rights to submit it. We may remove Your Content if we reasonably believe it violates these Terms or applicable law.

Our intellectual property

LinguaLens (the extension, web app, API, design, logos, and underlying software) is owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms don’t grant you any rights in our intellectual property except the limited right to use LinguaLens as described here.

Third-party services

LinguaLens integrates with Stripe (payments), third-party machine translation providers, Sentry (error monitoring), and optionally Anki, Skritter, or other flashcard applications you choose to connect. Your use of those third-party services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We’re not responsible for them or for content, websites, or resources they provide.

Disclaimer of warranty

LinguaLens is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment. We don’t warrant that LinguaLens will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that translations produced will be accurate, complete, or suitable for a particular purpose. You use LinguaLens at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use LinguaLens, even if we’ve been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or LinguaLens will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for LinguaLens in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100). Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations of liability; in those jurisdictions, the limits apply to the maximum extent the law permits.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless us and our affiliates, officers, employees, and contractors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or connected with: (a) your use of LinguaLens; (b) Your Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third-party right.

Changes to LinguaLens

We may add, change, or remove features. We may set or change usage limits, deprecate APIs, or retire integrations. Where a change materially reduces functionality you’ve been relying on, we’ll do our best to give advance notice.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we make material changes, we update the effective date at the top of this page and, where it’s practicable, give you additional notice (e.g., by email or in-app). Continuing to use LinguaLens after the effective date counts as acceptance. If the updated Terms aren’t something you can agree to, stop using LinguaLens and delete your account.

Miscellaneous

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about LinguaLens and replace any prior agreements. If a provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a right or provision isn’t a waiver of it. You can’t assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them as part of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets.
